MEMBERSHIP

Membership is classed into: Active, Associate, Emeritus, and Honorary.
Active Members:
May hold office, attend all executive sessions, serve on all committees, participate in all society transactions. They vote and pay modest dues. Active membership is limited to those who have served on Active duty or in the Medical Reserve Forces of one of the Uniformed Services in a consultant capacity. In cases of exceptional qualification or interest, others may be considered for Active Membership by the Society's Council.
Associate Members:
Those of similar qualification to Active Members, currently on Active duty. They may attend executive sessions ad serve on Committees. They pay no dues and do not vote. On termination of Active Duty, Associates automatically become Active Members. It is the duty of the Associate to notify the Society of his/her status change.
Candidate Members
Candidate Members are individuals in good standing at USUHS or in any of the official U.S. medical student/resident scholarship programs will be eligible to become Candidate members and have all rights and privileges of associate members in SMCAF. Subsequent to completion of training and upon meeting the requirements for active or associate membership, candidate members will be encouraged to apply for associate or active status.
Emeritus Members:
May be so categorized by the Council, at member request, because of retirement, illness, or other meriting circumstance.
Honorary Members
Elected by the Council from people of special distinction to the Society, but not filling all membership criteria, for example, distinguished physicians from other countries.
